Pismo Beach Driving: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Today I am going to tell you about the time I nearly killed myself last year. I was on vacation at Pismo Beach driving ATVs with my brother and parents on my birthday. It was our fourth time going so we were little bit experienced. “ Don’t do anything risky it’s not worth if you ruin your life because of one mistake, “ my mom calmly explained as she put her helmet on. “ Ok whatever. Can we leave now, “ my brother murmured annoyed, while making noises with the vehicle. After that my family and I drove around for about ninety minutes before taking a quick break. “Hey, I dare you to make that jump over there, “ he insisted excitedly while pulling his phone out of his backpack. : We can upload it to Youtube and my channel will get tons of …show more content…
The ambulance came and took me to the nearest hospital where I stayed for the next four hours.
“ After seeing the scans your nasal plate is shattered and you have fractured your arm. Tomorrow make sure that you go to your pediatrician and see the next time you can book an appoint with an ENT specialist, “concluded with a blank look as he handed my parents some paperwork. The next day my dad took a day off and took me to the ENT specialist.
“ We will have to have you stay here overnight for about three days at the most,” he explained while looking at some results from tests he conducted.
“My elementary school graduation is in three days. Do you think I will be able to make it?, “ I stated with a scared look on my face because that was a very important day for me that I didn’t want to miss.
“Maybe if you are lucky, but most people in your condition would have to stay three whole nights, “ he mentioned as he left the room. After two nights I was able to leave the hospital and return for the last day of school and the sixth grade promotion ceremony. After this experience I learned that you should never take risks that can affect your lifestyle and how you live

Like every Sunday, I get up, get ready for church, eat lunch, and go see the horses because we had them boarded in Woodville and we could not go and see them everyday. On September 9th, 2016 I was a passenger in rear-end car accident. At the young age of seventeen, I was ignorant, rebellious and negligent. At this time, I honestly believed that I knew it all and was always in the right; I would ignore anyone trying to guide me towards the right path or give me advice. As in the short story “Rain of Fire” by Evan Thomas, I would have never expected that a regular day could end up in such catastrophe. I learned not to trust those whom I have not gotten to know well enough.…

The Comfort of Ignorance Much of my life has been filled with blissful ignorance about the world. Growing up, I was consumed by the little problems of my life and never thought twice about the hardships of others. However, as a self-absorbed fourteen year-old, I found that although ignorance is comfortable, it blocks the true reality of what the world is. It was a crisp, clear, and unusually warm winter day when I had to shadow my mom in the ER.…
