Piscopo Is Paralyzed But Says He's Never Been Happier

After reading “Choosing Joy: Enzio Piscopo is Paralyzed, But Says He’s Never Been Happier. Find Out Why.”, looking at the “Happiness” picture with the quote from Benjamin Franklin, and seeing the video of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams (and studying the lyrics), it is obvious that a topic in all three is happiness. To identify a common theme, however, took a closer look. The quote on the “Happiness” picture with the alligator is from Benjamin Franklin, and says that happiness depends more on the “inward disposition of mind” rather than on “outward circumstances.” This means that how we feel inside is what makes us feel happiness. Showing an alligator in the picture, whose outward appearance does not generally makes us think of a happy animal, indicates that as angry or sad the alligator may look, he can still be happy because of how he feels inside. There is nothing that limits how much happiness we can feel inside because it is a choice that we make. And what we chose to make us happy overcomes any disability or pain. Similarly, Enzio Piscopo, when faced with being paralyzed for the rest of his life from the waist down, was presented with a choice; he could concentrate on the negatives of his injury, or, in terms of feeling happy, he could follow his own advice. Pharrell Williams writes, “I’m a hot air balloon that could go into space...Clap along if you feel like a house without a roof, because I’m happy... Clap along if you know what happiness is to you.” A house without a roof is open to the limitless sky and the hot air balloon will keep rising forever.
