Pirate Essay Number 2 Literature actually doesn’t do a service to history in our era and time. I’m saying this right now because there are many instances the lead to this conclusion of my argument. Some have to deal with different pirates from the old times and how they are portrayed in our time with books fantasizing their past into make belief and play pretend material. Others include authors putting a bit too much juice in their blender and making our beloved pirates sad as they are clueless to what their past influenced the minds of poor creators in the 21st century. I will explain to you, my reader, why literature is a huge disservice to history and its many great sea stories. It all begins with a single step, literature. The literature we’ve read to make this argument possible are the books of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and Pirate Latitudes by Michael Crichton. Born Edward Teach circa 1690, he got his skills and experiences in sailing and seamanship while serving on a British privateering ship based in the Caribbean. He became a Captain of a ship when he captured a French ship named La Concorde and renamed it Queen Anne’s Revenge. He attacked many ships along the Caribbean capturing two smaller vessels adding them to his fleet. Black Beard reached the climax of his career while blockading the port of Charleston, S.C. in 1718 for 6 days. Black Beard marooned 25 of his crew on a sandbar and left. Black Beard sailed into Bath, N.C. and received pardons from Governor Charles Eden. However, Governor of Virginia, Alexander Spottswood, knew Black Beard would not stop so he sent the royal navy to deal with him and in the month of November, 1718, Black Beard died on Ocracoke Inlet. That was a summed up life story of Captain Black
