The Beatles and the so called Beatlemania began in their hometown of Liverpool in December 1961 which was brought on by sheer luck. Mersey Boat a local music magazine wrote an article that was spurred on by a popularity poll ran by them to search out fresh talent which gave them a massive following in the local area. Long before it was “cool” a great deal of people had already coined the Beatle-hairstyle throughout Liverpool. Shortly after this the band was introduced to George Martin and Brian Epstein. Two years after this momentous meeting The Beatles had become one of the most famous and popular bands in England. The Beatles shot to stardom after their first two singles “love me do” and “please please please” aired on the radio and on the TV show (Matzner 51). Musicology 123 Paper 1 Starr and Waterman stated that cover songs/cover versions in the postwar era were used to “cash in on the potential popularity of a recording by creating their own (sometimes almost indistinguishable) versions of it.” However, the reason that a musician records a cover song has drastically changed since the late 1940s. Nowadays, musicians record a cover song to pay homage to their favorite musicians and to the musicians that have inspired them. This is exactly why Foo Fighters covered a song composed by Pink Floyd called “Have a Cigar” and in this paper will compare Pink Floyd’s version of the song with the Foo Fighters’ version. “Have a Cigar” is a colossally popular Pink Floyd song from one of Pink Floyd’s finest…

The Beatles started a revolution of pop music and made rock and roll the music that most people chose and they made Britain the centre of the music market of the time. The Beatles had been particularly effective because of their talent in writing lyrics of the songs that represented a new affirmation of the concept and image of the working-class. By being working-class image, writing their own songs, ignoring the larger adult audience in favour of appealing to youth alone, and expressing their opinions on society, the Beatles created the rudiments of a lasting image of the rock and roll musician – in pursuing these ideas, they became an idea themselves…

Epstein believed that image was the key. His influence on the Beatles image and the consistent uniformity of the overall image, helped launch one of the greatest bands in…
