Ping Pong Essay

Register to read the introduction… Many people have become great athletes, musicians, actors/actresses, and many other fulfilling careers because they were bored. From personal experience, I can say people can find their talents and passions while bored. One day I had nothing to do. I was extremely bored. My dad came home with a ping pong table because he was bored as well and found one for a cheap price. We started playing that day and I was awful; I had never played a game of ping pong in my life. We played every day for months and, after about three months, my ability in ping pong got much better. I was eventually able to beat my dad. That was six years ago. Today I am one of the best ping pong players around. I play every day in physical education and have lost twice all semester. Without having been bored I would have never found out how much I enjoy playing ping pong, or have developed my talent to the level it is. There are many athletes who found their talent in a specific sport when they were young because they were bored with their friends and decided to start playing. Had these people been raised improperly they might have, instead of playing sports, done drugs, joined a gang, committed a crime. But they did not. They were taught how to behave. They were told not to do those things, to stay out of trouble. Something parents do not seem to care about these days. People today would rather blame boredom for their kids getting into trouble than themselves. If parents taught their kids discipline, responsibility, and, most importantly, respect, then the kids would stay out of trouble more often. Parents would not have to worry about disrespectful children. Children would not talk back to their parents, they would not get into trouble, and they would be more responsible members of …show more content…
Many people, especially teens, do get into trouble while they are bored. However; this is not an effect of the boredom. This is an effect of how the child was raised. Had the child been taught discipline and respect he/she would not get into trouble, as often, when bored. Getting into trouble is teenage nature. All teens will go through a “rebel” and get into a little trouble, but if raised properly, the teenager will learn after a small amount of trouble and realize it is a bad idea. Parents need to teach their children how to channel their boredom. Teach them a hobby, even two. Influence who your children hang out with. You know who the “troublemakers” are. Keep them away from them. Teach your kids why you do not want them befriending those peers of theirs. (McLeod) Refrain from the cliche “because I said so”. This tends to lead to rebellion against the parent. If you treat teens like they are adults, they will grow to be responsible citizens because you showed them respect. And, they will return the favor. And, they will stay out of
