Professional Characteristics In The Classroom

Professional characteristics:
I am punctual, flexible, and dependable. I also listen carefully to all students and respond in a professional manner. I am punctual because I always arrived to the school five to ten minutes before my scheduled time to observe. I was dependable because I attended all my scheduled observation times except for one when I was sick and I was sure to call the school and tell them I would not be there. I also made sure my hours were made up. I was flexible because during the week of Thanksgiving my cooperating teacher told me not to come that week because they would not be regular class work and it would be better if I came at a different time. I always listened to the students and made sure to respond in a professional

The students were expected to remain silent most of the class and they were only allowed to speak if she called on them or gave the permission to speak. There were very little social interactions in the classroom and a lack of creativity. The class was very routine, as they did the same thing every day. In the yearbook class the students came in quietly, picked up their computer, and began working on their pages. The social studies class was also very routine. The students came in began silently reading their library book, then they would read the textbook and complete a worksheet. Then there would be a test at the end of the unit. The only time they strayed from this routine was when the sixth-grade class did a couple of weeks back. The project seemed fun for them, but there were so many regulations I believed it stifled their creativity. I tried my best to interact with the students, but I felt if talked to them too much it was distracting them from their work. On occasions, they would get in trouble for talking to me instead of doing class work. I wish I could have got to know them better and had more of a chance to work with …show more content…
I believe classroom management is a large aspect of teaching, but I believe there is a fine line between being too strict and not strict enough. As I said before I want a more relaxed classroom, where my students are free to dream and create, but I want ensure that I am always in control of classroom. I believe there are better ways to handle discipline than yelling or immediately sending students to the principal. I know it will take time to develop my own way of managing a classroom, but this is one of the main things I want to work on. I would also like to work on being able to connect with every student. Some students will be very easy to connect with, but I am aware others will be much more difficult. I want to work on finding ways to connect and build relationships with some of the most challenging students. I know I have so much still to learn and I will keep improving, but this field experience was a great start.
I have learned so much from this class and my observations. I am more excited about teaching now than ever before. There are so many ideas swimming around in my head that I can’t even begin to put on paper. As I keep working towards my goal of becoming a teacher I cannot wait to continue learning new skills. I am excited to put all that I learn into practice and to keep building my philosophy of education. I know the journey is just beginning and I am ready

What is the most significant challenge I’m facing so far in my teaching role? The most significant challenge I am facing so far, is having the feeling of complete control over the classroom without trying to micromanage every single student, task, and behavior. The feeling I currently have is that when I sense that I do not have control of the class, I tend to start micromanaging things. This is a behavior I want to work on internally, so that externally I show confidence.…

This class has been really interesting so far, we are being to touch on subjects that most of us have had previously experience with, as well as being introduced to new subjects. Two subjects that really jumped out at me were the risk ratio and all the positive changes we can make as teachers. Both of these subjects are not new material, but the textbook did enlighten me and hopefully other’s views on the subjects. The risk ratio was a huge problem in my hometown of El Paso, Texas.…

Privilege Looking back on my original tumblr account, I’ve known that I have privilege for at least four years. I might not have been feeling the same way about it as I am now, but I have at least been aware of my privilege. I used to feel guilty about my privilege and feel attacked when people pointed it out. My viewpoint used to be “Sure I have white privilege but it’s not my fault, I didn’t choose this, I’m not racist, don’t blame me, etc.” Over time I’ve realized that I shouldn’t be feeling attacked by people pointing out my privilege.…

I am pursuing a degree in mathematics education (B.S.Ed.) with licensure to be able to teach mathematics to 7-12 grade students. For this activity, I selected my former high school Accelerated Algebra II teacher Della Highman at Franklin Heights High School. She has been teaching algebra for a number of years and even has an ESL math class that meets for two periods per day. I decided to interview her because of the diverse setting of my high school and the fact she has been teaching algebra for an extended period of time; I truly enjoy algebra and believe it would be the most suitable subject for me to teach (because of how long I’ve worked with this foundational subject), although I will be licensed and willing to teach geometry or calculus…

My Classroom Management Philosophy I believe that classroom management plays a major role in creating a successful classroom. A successful classroom must be a safe learning environment, offer positive encouragement to encourage students to make the right choices, set rules that are understood by the students, and creating responsible students who can take control over their own work. This type of classroom is a major goal of mine because I feel as though the students would really benefit. I am committed to creating a safe environment and creating positive reinforcement within my classroom.…

Classroom management is crucial for every teacher to have in a successful learning environment. I believe that students need to be controlled and disciplined; students at this age need to be guided in the right path. They are capable of self-discipline but need to be shown what the rules of the classroom are and what is the expectation of the teacher. I believe that students are basically good but that the environment around them influences them tremendously. If they maintain busy with instruction then they will not have time to be disruptive and they need to be guided to behave appropriately.…
