The effect Michal and Katurian’s parents had on them was very evident with Michal. The actual physical abuse had a mental and physical impact on Michal. Katurian however was a little different. His parent intentionally sculpted him to be the type of person they wished him to be and were successful in doing so. In the end we realize that there was a reason why Ariel was so angry and mean that traced back to his father. Whether this was the purpose of the play or not this is what I felt was displayed through the script. It was very interesting to see how they all came hand in hand and how without one or the other the play would not have been as effective. Without costumes and the right actor for the role the character would be harder to understand. The characteristics and the history of the character would be very difficult to figure out. Without lighting and the proper scenery it would be a guessing game for the audience as to what is going on and where. The lighting and scenery also allow the actors to feel more in character and enable them to perform to their
