The pill bug has many predators Lizards , toads , spiders and other small mammals . Sometimes when they are shedding and their exterior is soft they will even eat their own kind . Pill bugs can be distinguished from other insects of a similar specie because of their seven pairs of legs and some specific types of pill bugs can roll into a ball if they are disturbed . They can also be told apart from other insects because of their oval-shaped abdomens . The pill bug has seven segments on its back that also help you to tell them apart from other insects . Their abdomen looks like leafs that are overlapping eachother .Their colors range from dark grey to white and they can have patterns. The pill bug has other distinguishing characteristics such as its pair of antennae . They also have a set of six segments that fall behind the seven on their abdomen . These segments are called the pleon segments . The first seven segments on the abdomen are what carry the pill bug's limbs but the first five pleon segments also carry limbs. Its been discovered that the more social the pill bug is the longer it lives . The ones who aren't very social among other pill bugs have a high mortality rate . Those pill bugs that are more social can live up to a few years old. The pill bug is in a constant struggle in trying to find moisture for its body . When it is very hot and humid the pill bug moves slowly but when it gets hot and dry they move faster because they are looking for an area that has more moisture . When they are in more dry areas they take shelter instead of eating or other activities that require energy . Most of the time pill bugs do energy consuming activites during the night since it is cooler outside . Some species are noctournal which means they are awake during the night and asleep during the day . When tempatures get to the range of 20 degrees celcius to 30 degrees celcius or 68 degrees ferenheit to 86 degrees ferenheit they begin to huddle so that way they can use the heat around them and decrease
