Piggy's Leadership Qualities In Lord Of The Flies

Leaders are made from certain qualities. All leaders are the same in this way. There are differences that make it so some don’t work in the end but the one chosen to rule still has some of the same qualities as the next leader. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Piggy showed the most effective leadership qualities and always knew what to do or how to word his thoughts to calm the situation for Ralph. There are many leaders like this today who exemplify these qualities. With all this said why Piggy wouldn’t be chosen to rule. This is because of many social prejudices that the boys in the novel.
The beginning of the novel you can already see that Piggy is going to be mistreated even though he is a very loveable character. Piggy is polite and instantly asks Ralph for his name. Actually he asks everyone for their names. He even tries to ask the littuns but gives up. In the whole novel which would have been months for the boys we never once get Piggy’s name in return. Even though people are nice to others and care about them doesn’t mean those people are going to care about the people that are nice to them.

They were cruel because of his physical appearance and him health. Piggy has Asthma, is fat, and has poor vision so he wears glasses. This is the biggest reason why he never is given the opportunity to become leader. Even though he is intelligent, caring, and fair, he never got the chance because of his physically characteristics. Ralph is chosen to be leader in the beginning because he is handsome and is physically fit even though Piggy was telling him what to do. Ralph shows the social prejudice of if someone looks better or popular people will want their approval or their leadership without really knowing what they are capable of. So much that people will actually hate others that are not beautiful in their standards that is why Jack hates piggy so much. Jack yelling “You shut up, you fat slug”
