Piggy and Ralph discovered the conch on the beach at the beginning of the book and use it to summon everyone after the crash or for meetings. Used in this manner, the conch becomes a powerful symbol of civilization and order. The shell governs the boys meetings, whichever boy is holding the conch is the only one allowed to speak. In this regard the shell is like a democratic power. As the island life escalates the boys stray towards savagery, and the shell loses its power and influence on them. Ralph held tight to the shell when telling his role in simon’s murder, and later the boys throw stones at him when he attempts to blow the conch in jack’s camp. The boulder than roger rolled over piggy also crushes the conch, symbolizing the end of the civilized instinct among the boys. The theme of this is if we didn’t have rules

Piggy’s Glasses Piggy’s glasses symbolize the ability to be able to see and understand things clearly. Piggy is the only boy who sees how things should really be done, aside from Jack. The cracking of the first lense symbolizes the boys losing sight of what they need to do. The glasses are also important in being able to start the fire. The theme of this is that you should listen to the ideas and opinions of everyone around you.
The signal fire The fire symbolizes the boy's grasp on civilization. The fire is initially very important to the novel, the boys being very persistent on having one, but as the boys grow more savage the fire becomes of lesser importance. Jack and the hunters let the fire go out in order to hunt. Ralph makes a constant effort to keep the fire going but he is unsuccessful.
Golding uses the signal fire as a symbol of hope, something Jack destroys as the novel continues. At times, the fire rages out of control. This is symbolizing the boys themselves.
The theme of this is if you don’t have any hope or motivation you won’t get anything done efficiently.
