Surviving on an island is sometimes survival of the fittest. In this case, Jack has the clear advantage. Jack is an active well fit young man unlike Piggy who tends to be sluggish. Piggy relies on his specs to be able to see the world but when they are taken he is nearly blind. Through the novel Jack becomes an avid hunter for wild pigs. While Piggy sits back and thinks about things. Piggy is tied down due to having asthma and being overweight. Jack meanwhile is motivated and obsessed with hunting and killing things in a savage way.
