Piggy is discriminated against because of his 'ass mar', fatness, 'specs', improper speech and liability. He isn't taken seriously and, even with constant reminders about the conch, the others don't listen to him or value his input unless they want to laugh at what 'amusing thing' he may say. He doesn't think much of himself as, when Ralph mocks him for his name, he is 'pleased of himself at even this much recognition'. The adverb 'even' shows that just a one -to-one conversation is uncommon to him. Moreover, the fact that he is pleased that Ralph recognises and responds to him, even if it's just to mock him, shows that he lacks understanding of when to appreciate attention due to the fact that he doesn't receive any. Unlike the others, Piggy remains the same disciplined, ethical boy up to, and including, his moment of death. The only glimpses of outward frustration we see are when is 'shocked out of decorum'. One example of this is when Jack and his choir let the fire go out, eradicating all hope for survival. At this moment, Piggy forgets 'his timidity in the agony of his loss'.
