Fairytales, as we all know, always convey some simple and valuable opinions to children. They teach children some basic and simple norms of life. Dispensing justice, finding true love are always the core meanings of fairytales, however, when I read the fairytale thoroughly, I feel a little uncomfortable of it. The story Pig King is a story about finding true love. The prince of a country is born with curse which is that he has to marry 3 times to become back to human form, so the story describes the prince killed the first two wives and lived with the third wife happily with the human form. Its ending sounds reasonable and romantic, however, when I thought it carefully I raised a question: Is it properly to let kids read a tale that the prince …show more content…
They seemed not scared by the violence part of the story but only focus on the love between the prince and his lovers, which makes me surprised and motives me to find out the reason of the phenomenon of kids. When I analyzed the fairy tale again, I found some tricky methods the author use to get his goal. The author's tone for developing his story varies from time to time. When he described the kids' part, he used a delighting tone, “When he saw how lovely and desirable she was he was filled with joy, and, all foul and dirty as he was, jumped round about her, endeavouring by his pawing and nuzzling to show some sign of his affection.”(44), author used action descriptions to describe the actions of the happy pig when he saw his bride. He jumping around her showed that he was very happy. Pawing and nuzzling showed the good impression of the pig. Those details can all give readers a good feeling. However, when the author described the violent part, he used a tricky tone to let kids not to pay attention to it. “At last the girl assented to take the pig prince for a husband; but her fate was no happier than her sister's, for the bridegroom killed her, as he had killed his other bride, and then fled headlong from the palace.”(45) The author did not write the detail that how he killed his second wife in some vivid words. He just described it no happier than, which gave me an impression that she died in a

Many children dream of being the pretty princess in the castle or the knight in shining armor who slays the dragon. According to child psychologist Bruno Bettelheim, these dreams are crucial for child development. Bettelheim presented the case that fairy tales are beneficial to children and their emotional and mental growth. They help them to grow mentally, emotionally, and feel more secure in what their futures entail. Through the use of ethos, dashes, ad populum, and point of view, Bettelheim attempts to persuade his audience that the fairy tales that have existed for thousands of years are beneficial to the development of children.…

No author is better celebrated in the fairytale world today than the Grimm brothers, whose publication of countless preexisting fairytales marked the fairytale genres transition from storytelling into literary text. Recognized as the standard source upon which our societies knowledge of German folklore is based (The Reception of Grimm Fairy Tales), the final edition of their work published remains ever present an influence for both readers and collectors alike. Yet, the translation of their work that remains in publication and is praised by society today is not how they originally intended for their work to appear. When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their first edition of a two-volume set of German fairytales titled “Children and Household Tales” in 1812, they didn’t shy from intensifying the gore and sexual intrigue that the stories they collected already exhibited. Originally voiced in a manor that would teach critical lessons and pass on cultural values and wisdom to younger generations, fairytales were crafted into dark and impressive stories meant to frighten children into compliance (Societies Influence on Grimms Fairytales).…

The original version provide a narrower outlook on the story and can easily set up unrealistic expectations for young girls. This change alters the theme from good conquering evil to a story between a mother and daughter. As part of Maitland’s new theme, she promotes a feminist message within her version of the fairytale. This allows her to establish a moral with a larger meaning. Because of this version, more people can come to the realization that there is a far greater “happily ever after” for the princess who doesn’t wait around for the prince to come sweet her off her feet, but instead who is strong enough to provide herself with her own happy…

It is clear to see the difference between the traditional tale and the retelling in Kristen Depken’s “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning”, he concludes his adaption of the fairy tale with, “Ariel and Prince Eric married and lived happily in a castle by the sea” (Depken 15). Andersen used his fairytales to convey his understanding of logic and ethics that are still important for myself and my peers to learn. This tale is means of encouragement for those who do not always receive a reward for their efforts. It also provides hope that in the end one’s efforts will be rewarded.…

Throughout fairy tales, the expectations of beauty and romance that are woven into the story are absorbed by the children viewing them. Children pick up on these ideals and quite often try to translate them into reality. Fairy tales, such as the one’s produced by Disney, often contain a magical romance with characters as magically beautiful as their love. However, these high expectations of love, beauty and happiness are unobtainable in our everyday world and leave children disheartened that their expectations of their body-image and love have not attained these unreasonable standards as they grow older. These expectations of body image, love, and happiness stem from infeasible beauty standards, magical romance, and living happily ever after…
