Pig Integumentary System

Improved Essays
Our bodies have systems that work together to help us function as one organism. The systems we learned about in class are the integumentary system, digestive system, excretory system, skeleton system,, and muscular systems. We dissected a fetal pig to get a better understanding of it and how it relates to us. We named the pig the great name of Wilbur since he was a male. He was a full term, or ready to be born, since he measured out to be over 30 centimeters. Then after we identified every we needed on Wilbur we started scoring on the stomach to get into the systems past the integumentary.
The skin is the integumentary system, it is the largest organ in the human body. We had to cut the skin on the pig to see the entrails. We cut through the

That still is impressive because that is almost 8 times longer than the pig itself! I also cut what we thought was it`s penis to find a bright blue and red cord in there that were very stretchy.
Digestion is not only in the stomach below, it starts when it enters your mouth. Chewing and saliva work to break down food before it gets to your stomach. In our pig we identified the soft and hard palate on the roof of the mouth of the pig. The soft palate was behind the hard.
We did not pay attention to much of the bones and muscles in the pig but we know from or chicken lab that muscles only contract and without bone they would not have any structure. Bone holds muscle in place on top of keeping our entire body structured. Bones also have the purpose of protecting our internal organs in our thoracic cavity. The ribs make a cage to protect the most important organs we need.
We started cutting organs out of the body to get a better look at them. We saw the lungs up close. They both are made up of lobes, which are creases that separate an organ. The left lung was made up of three lobes while the right was made up of

This can be seen by looking at the jaw. The movement it makes during chewing, for example, the up and down movement (made by the jaw bone responding to the electrical message sent from the Nervous System) masticates the food so that it is soft enough to be swallowed and travel down the oesophagus to the stomach and then to the small intestine to be broken down and digested so that the body can gain the nutrients and energy it needs from the food products and then excrete the waste products it does not need. This entire digestive process begins with the movement of the jaw bone, which could not be completed without the Musculo-Skeletal system. It is clear that there are numerous functions of the Musculo-Skeletal sytem. It provides form, protection, support, movement and works in harmony with other systems within the body.…
