Picture Analysis

Have you ever think about what you are taking for granted which are other people cannot have? Maybe most of us will never think about that much. However, there is a photo after audience saw it, this question will came to their mind. It is a photo of four boys, two pages of a book, a pencil, and a shabby desk. The boys’ appearances seem dirty. Their heads are all crowded and concentrated on the two pages of a book which seems obsolete (Yap). In this image, there are three points that can be analyze. They are the color of the image, the framing of the image, and the characters represents and each of element represents poverty and hope.

When you just see the picture at the first sight, you will find it is a rectangle (Yap). Just base on the rectangle, the photographer shows all the things he or she wants in the photo. It is because the focal point of the picture is perfect, it seems that four characters are the focal points. However, when audiences following the characters’ view, audiences will find that they are focusing the book. Thus, the focal point is the two pages of textbook they are reading (Yap). It will reflect to audiences and make them think about the main idea of the photo. It should be about learning knowledge which is represents about hope. On the other hand, the photographer used a special angle to shoot the picture, so audiences can feel that the four characters are important in the photo. Audiences can see the four characters whether from face or clothes are perfect (Yap). Based on focusing the characters, the photographer does not forget about the objects that he or she wants to show. The audiences can also see all the objects in the photo clearly (Yap). Although there is an object which is the desk is not that obvious for audiences, it is a hint for audiences to think about characters and it also will challenge audiences, too. When audiences just saw the image, they will attractive by these four boys. They seem like little school boys and they should be in a primary school play with their classmates. However, they seem like not that happy with what they have. The four heads huddled together to read a folded two pages of a textbook. Their hair is greasy, their faces are with dust and their clothes are shabby (Yap). Based on their appearance, it demonstrates that they are kind of poor and they are the wretch. Therefore, they are represents poverty. Afterwards, from their actions and their facial expression audiences can see they are wondering about knowledge. Their actions and facial expressions are focusing on that two pages textbook (Yap). For example, from the right side of the picture, the first boy tries to press the book. It seems that he really wants to get to see the book individually. The second boy has opened his mouth like he wants to say something about the book. The third boy takes the only pencil and try to write down something. The last boy is pointing at the book and his eyes are flowing his finger. Their facial expressions are concentrated and curious (Yap). Therefore, their facial expressions and their actions tell audiences that they want to learn knowledge. Although they are all want to study, there is not enough stuff for them to learn. It seems that they
