Picnic Play Analysis

Picnic Performance Critique Picnic as directed by Jack Wright, was the first play that I had ever gone to in my life. As far as a first time experience, I’d say that Picnic left me wanting more from the actors and the production overall. The two actors that I chose to focus on were those who played Hal Carter and Millie Owens; James Kern and Melissa Berger respectively. I closely examined the voices of both of these actors as well as each and every one of their movements and what they did to better portray their characters. After sitting through the entire play and watching these two, I believe that I can give a critique of their performances. Let’s get right into it starting with James Kern. After watching James’s performance in Picnic I …show more content…
I know for a fact that the second my shirt came off, no matter what my body looked like, I would be getting tense. James was able to get rid of most of that tension as the play progressed, but there were times where he desperately needed to just breathe and think about what his performance needed most. In conclusion, I think that Hal Carter was a forgettable character. The romance that was built up throughout the play was more analogous to one that a middle schooler would have. There needed to be more feelings in James’s voice. His body language displayed his feelings well, but that is not effective alone in a play where characters interact through dialogue. Again, I believe that James did a great job with what he was given. Millie Owens as played by Melissa Berger, on the other hand did a tremendous job overall. The play started with her and Bomber having a scene together where she was teased by him and it was immediately distinguishable that these two had a history of not liking each other. Every time that there was an interaction between her and some other character, you got the story behind their relationship. She really took given circumstances to the next level and I was genuinely impressed with

There was quite a bit more of foul language(7) than I expected, but it helped add more a more real effect to the conversation. I feel like a little of that type of language is acceptable, but it was used more excessively than what was actually needed. Another aspect that did not work well in my opinions was the fight and violence scenes(8). I did not think that the actions were exceptionally well acted out and they could have used more practice. Fighting scenes like that are hard to act out because they have to be so specific and rehearsed, but that part of the play just did not seem real to me.…

Refried Elvis is a swiftly paced parody that packs a Presley punch. With familiar tunes and modern jokes, it’s fun for the whole family. From beginning to end it’s as smart as it is funny, and guaranteed to entertain. I found the acting to be nearly impeccable, as all on stage seemed entirely committed to their characters, actions, and intent. No matter how serious or silly the scene, I found the believability to be there.…

Two particular actors who played the characters of “Andrew Jackson” and “Rachel” did a fantastic job. The actor who played “Andrew Jackson” did a great job of remembering all of his lines and important factual information he had to retain. In addition, he added a “spunk” feel to Andrew Jackson making him feel more modern and “hip”. I personally think that “spunk” allowed me to relate to him more. Furthermore, the actress who played “Rachel” did a fantastic job of staying into character even in the scenes that she was not on stage and in the crowd.…

Yes, I do believe that Hansberry’s stage drama has helped be comprehend what she wanted her audience to understand through the story of the Younger family. Hansberry wanted to tell her audience the truth about the black people in that time period and teach about their life. she wanted to teach the audience whet the black people did on a day to day basis. She wanted her audiences to understand that the African American race is just as complicated and similar as other races of people are. She wants the audiences that experience the play first hand and those that read about the play in the future to realize that each race and group of people is more similar then they original believe.…

Cyrus Trask didn't seem like a stable man after his time in war, but not like he had PTSD. Afterwards it seemed to me that he had changed from his old wild self to a permanent soldier even with his children. When Mr. Trask was talking about what he would have done to the prostitute that infected him, I instantly knew I wasn't going to like him. It wasn't like it was her fault that he chose to sleep with her, and she probably didn't know she contracted the disease. Mrs. Trask was kind of like Liza…

I was extremely excited to watch Brooklyn College’s rendition of Speech and Debate. The reasoning behind my excitement was that whilst reading the play written by Stephan Karam, I quickly realized that it’s humor and authenticity were aspects that I typically enjoy to a great extent in stories, whether that be in the form of a television show, movie, or play. I also felt that I was readily prepared to watch the show meticulously and focus on its acting and casting aspects. I chose the acting facet of the production to be the focal point of my review yet again because I understand that I could have pushed further and been more detail oriented when writing my previous review. Brooklyn College’s Speech and Debate had a small cast of four actors.…

At first glance, the stage looked different from what most would come to expect. The theater itself appeared clean and prepared for an audience expecting something similar to Frozen.…
