Picking Up the Pieces
Picking Up the Pieces is the film being produced to document my life. As I sit here thinking about what music I would like to use for the soundtrack, I start to think about all of the things that I have been through in my 40 years of life. All of those hurdles that I have had to climb over and the songs start to flow through my mind. So many songs to choose from, but as I narrow them down to the top four, I feel that I can set the mood of how I have picked up the pieces of my life and in turn turned my life around.
The first song that I have chosen is “White Liar” by Miranda Lambert. Lambert is an American country music artist whom co-wrote this song with Natalie Hemby. The song was released in August of 2009. The reason

He is an American reggae singer-songwriter who began as a pop singer in the 1950’s. He is best known for this hit that was released in 1972. This song’s lyrics are the next phase of my life. As I was dealing with my divorce, I realized that I was finally seeing clearly. “Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone. All of the bad feelings have disappeared. Here is that rainbow I've been praying for.” These were all things that I was saying to myself as the fog began to clear and I was able to see that my life would go on after divorce. It was hard at times, but in order to get over the hurt and pain, you must grieve and with that comes …show more content…
Allen is an American Country Music Artist who started out season eight winner of American Idol in 2009. I think the part of this song that means the most to me are the lyrics that say, “We only got 86,400 seconds in a day to turn it all around or to throw it all away. Gotta tell 'em that we love 'em while we got the chance to say. Gotta live like we're dying.” This is so true to me. You never know when you will lose someone and do you really want them to not know that you loved them? I know I do not. I live my life by this philosophy. It is really the only way to live after you have loved and lost.
The last song that I would choose would be “Wide Open Spaces” by the Dixie Chicks. The Dixie Chicks is a Western-themed bluegrass band who formed in 1989. They two sisters named Martie and Emily Erwin who joined Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy as the band we now know as the Dixie Chicks. They named themselves this after a Little Feat song “Dixie

I choose the songs “Walkin’ After Midnight” by Patsy Cline (1957), “Darkest Valley” by Group 1 Crew (2012), and “Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been” by Relient K (2004). I choose these three pieces because they are all something that I listen to regularly and they demonstrate a variety of styles in music. Patsy Cline was an iconic female country singer that won awards at the Deejay Convention, won Billboard’s “Most Promising Country & Western Female Artist,” and Music Vendor’s “Greatest Achievement in Records” all just for “Walking After Midnight” (Jones, 1994, p. 159). “Walkin’ After Midnight” music was written by Alan Block and the lyrics were written by Don Hecht ("Walkin' After Midnight." Second Hand Songs - A Cover Songs Database.).…

Once I accepted that my mom and dad would not be getting back together I started getting back in the same person I used to be. I would not cry as much at night, which soon evolved into not crying at all at night. I would quit writing letters to flood out my feelings, instead I would turn to my phone or tablet to get out of the world that I lived in. I believe that instead of writing letters I transitioned into playing on my phone or even just checking the time. Because it was easier and quicker to do than to get out a sheet of paper, a pencil and to find time to just sit and write a paragraph or two on how I…

I feel the song Compass by Lady Antebellum describes my character in a nutshell. It’s about following your heart not as much your head. It is about living life as it’s laid out, not how you think it’s supposed to be. I love this song because it also reminds you that someone will always be there when you need them. You may not know who they are, but I hope humanity has not yet reached the point where we leave another human being in need out on the street without offering any help.…

I chose the song "Break Up In A Small Town" because it accurately describes my life. About 6 months ago, my boyfriend and I broke up. Once we broke up I started talking to one of his friends, but not out of spite. We seemed very compatible and liked each other very much. I actually started listening to this song during the mess, and told everyone that the song described my life perfectly.…

I personally liked the second song as is not as corny lyrically as the first song, also the music and shouting style of the second song are more appealing to hear. I believe both songs are very similar and as both were Motown hits, which followed a certain pattern, as they had a sort of copycat motto, where they would use the same song writers and musicians and tend to commercialize the music they produce to appeal a bigger audience. I am very familiar with these two songs as I have heard them before on the radio and movies they are practically similar, however the second one to me was much better lyrically and the lead vocals delivery is very passionate, a truly nostalgic Motown sound.…

    The Lost Cause Analysis

The Lost Cause is a set of beliefs that favored the views of the South during the American Civil War and the age of Reconstruction. While many “Lost Cause” advocates stated that their work was not political, often the underlying motive of such advocates’ actions indeed centered around political values. The Lost Cause influenced people not to view the confederates’ rebellion as a fight to keep slavery but as a preservation of the Southern way of life and to view the Confederates as heroes who lost an unfair battle; however, advocates of the Lost Cause faced limitations and challenges from the poor postwar economy. Perhaps the biggest influence of the Lost Cause was a deemphasis on the central role and brutality of slavery in the South.…

In the column “We Have Nothing Left to Hold Us Together,” American columnist, Ben Shapiro, argues against athletes protesting the national anthem. He contends that the anthem symbolizes proud American ideals and unity, and that protesting it undermines the rights Americans hold and the ideologies they stand for. Shapiro’s claim that the anthem is a symbol for an ideal America, and the act of kneeling during, especially by privileged football players, only divides America is incorrect. Even though Shapiro states that love of country does not require love of all aspects of America, he says it means understanding what it was founded on. He claims that our founding fathers founded America on “a uniquely good basis.”…

While you are recreating the self, you are also taking what you learn from the breakup and implementing it to your becoming. Country songs are about stories. Every country song has some sort of message or meaning embedded within the lyrics or the music. From Jimmy Rodgers to Johnny Cash, then to George Strait and Garth Brooks, and now Sam Hunt and Brett Eldredge. All country music is just a country boy getting their feelings or stories out there. The song All On Me by Devin Dawson is no exception.…
