Pick Your Poison Persuasive Speech

Improved Essays
1.Hello everyone and welcome to our live newscast. I'm Johnny Joyride. Some of you probably know me from my award winning college essay on water titled "Pick Your Poison." My professor was so impressed with the essay that when she finished reading it she said "Wow, I have never seen a man your age write at a ninth grade level."

2.It was at that time I realized. Even though I'm older, there are still things I can do as well as a young teenager. But that's enough about me. I could talk about myself all night because according to my overpaid therapist I'm a egotistical, narcissistic, psychopath. Whatever.

3.The real reason we are here tonight is to talk about water conservation. With the population steadily rising, the nation is starting

While others think it would be a good idea to stop building tourist attractions that use a cities worth of water everyday. But people, I think we have found a better way.

5.Joining me in the studio tonight are some members of the DPA, also know as the Dirty People of America. I just wanna let you know, I'm not really gonna be talking to them because based on their name and concept, I'm pretty sure they're not familiar with the English language.

6. But anyways. The DPA has come up with a well thought out plan to stop all of this useless handwashing in America in order to save our water. Personally I think it's great concept.

7.If you think about it, soap wasn't even invented until 2800 B.C. Do you think life forms would have survived on this planet for 2800 years without soap if it was so important? The DPA feels handwashing today is just a habit for people, not a necessity.

8.People today feel like they have to wash their hands every time they use the restroom. In all reality everyone is touching the same kind of body parts. So what are you really avoiding by washing your hands? If your genitles have fungus on them, so do other people's. That's just part of

The article “Goodbye, Bottled Water?”, by Gail Hennessey, was written to convince bottled water users to stop purchasing bottled water due to environmental impacts. To begin with, Hennessey pointed out such serious toxic pollution cause by throwaway plastic bottles. According to San Bernardino’s mayor, “ More than 1 billion plastic bottles end up in California's landfills each year.” Then, the plastic bottles will sit there for 1000 years to biodegrade and leaving toxic pollution. Likewise, Hennessey states that the oil needed for producing plastic bottles affect the environment as well.…

That starts with making a personal commitment to not buy or drink bottled water unless the water in your community is truly unhealthy. Yes, it takes a bit of foresight to grab a reusable bottle on the way out, but I think we can handle it”(64). This is one suggestion that can be applied in real life, even though it will be a big sacrifice for some people who are used to buying bottled of water and don’t like tap water. But the sacrifice will give a positive outcome in our environment, and there will also be less pollution by using reusable…

As obvious and rational as it might now be, the act of washing hands to prevent infections wasn’t so apparent up until the late 1800s. Back when doctors and medical students would move from dissecting a corpse straight to performing surgery on a patient, what is now known as infectious diseases were attributed to various reasons, and as every human being is in someway distinct from others, it was suggested that the cause of every death was too (Semmelweis seal., n.d.). In the 1840’s, and due to an increasing rate of puerperal fever (also known as childbed fever) amongst new mothers, which is a condition that occurs when a woman experiences an infection related to giving birth (Ataman A., n.d.). A Hungarian doctor named Ignaz Semmelweis discovered that mortalities from puerperal fever can be remarkably reduced by the simple act of washing hands.…

Hand Hygiene is considered “the most important measure for preventing the spread of pathogens in health- care settings” because it reduces the spread of pathogenic organisms to patients and health- care workers. Studies in the mid 1800s showed that hospital acquired nosocomial infections and diseases were spread by the hands of healthcare workers. In the 1980s, the first national guidelines for hand washing were published, and many other guidelines followed. The US public health service released a training video in 1961 that demonstrated recommended hand washing techniques for healthcare workers. The video recommended washing hands with soap and water for one to two minutes before and after coming in contact with a patient.…

The Polish Plague, or Lack Thereof During the 14th century, while the plague ravaged the majority of Europe, the nation of Poland was drastically less than that of the surrounding nations. This was largely due to the Poland ruler Casimir the Great, social and economic factors, and the large population of Jewish individuals that had settled there. The first explanation to the seeming lack of the plague in Poland was a king during the 14th century. Casimir the Great through excellent and skillful leadership helped Poland escape the plague barely scathed. Casimir III was king of Poland from 1333 to 1370, often called “the Great” because he was deemed a peaceful ruler, a “peasant king,” and a skillful diplomat.…

Not washing your hands after going to the bathroom is my biggest pet peeve! Public bathrooms have thousands of germs all around, especially in the stall. It is extremely unsanitary and can take a negative impact on a person’s health to not wash away germs. By washing I mean using soap, not just water because the bubbles in the soap are what trap the germs for them to wash away. One time in the 3rd grade I did not wash my hands for about a week and a half because I wanted to see what would happen, and sure enough I got the flu.…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…
