Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist opened the world to the idea of children going through “four universal stages: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operations”(Feldman 2011,pg.168). The backbone to his theory comes from a basic calculation that, “action= knowledge”(Feldman 2011,pg.168). With this equation Piaget is suggesting that for children to learn and grow they must be provided with the right tools. Just like the virtual child on the MyLab program, it is demonstrated that in order to help the child grow there must be the proper tools or outlets that are provided by the parents. With my virtual child, Isabella, she has had the proper tools to be able to surpassed the first stage sensorimotor and now has moved on to preoperational stage where she will being to grow and obtain new knowledge. …show more content…
She has still obtained traits that she gained from previous stages but is now applying them to new ones. From her progress report it shows that she is developing at an average age appropriate rate. At this stage the child usually is very egocentric but in Isabella case she is very cooperative, works well with others and doesn’t get stressed to easily. In class, Isabella has an easy time staying on task and not distracting others. At this age she is beginning to develop symbolic thought and starting to grasp the ideas of syntax and grammar.
