Pi Occupational Therapy Essay

At Misericordia University and in surrounding communities, promotion of occupational therapy can be applied through several methods. By promoting the practice of occupational therapy through different methods, individuals will be able to gain an understanding of what occupational therapy services truly aim to offer. The first way that Pi Theta Epsilon can help to promote occupational therapy within the community is to hold a workshop at Misericordia about a particular impairment that affects not only students, but also individuals in the community. Not only would a session like this contribute to their safety, but their health can be enhanced through the support for independent living (Arbesman et al., 2014). By having a Q&A session, it will allow the seniors the time to express their concerns about anything making them uncomfortable, when it comes to independent living. As for the Pi Theta Epsilon students, this will be a time for them to promote and explain occupational therapy’s role in helping seniors safely live independently, along with the benefits of it. Independence is very important to occupational therapists and many therapists would agree that the primary goal is to help clients live as independently as possible (Bowen, 1994). This Q&A will also give the Pi Theta Epsilon students a chance to explain general safety, when living at home, such as removing area rugs because they can be a fall risk.
