Physics Of Pitching

Kansas City Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez is the ace of the Royals pitching staff and he just pitched them to a World Series victory over the New York Mets. You may think that he can only throw that fast and accurate because he is bigger than you but there is much more to pitching than just the size of the pitcher. Even though pitching deals with the strength someone has to be a good pitcher you have to understand the physics and the force behind the actual pitch. In pitching you will need to know about the physics the human body even just pitching in general and speed and velocity.

Muscles in your arms dont just happen to start moving there is a process that goes on without you even knowing that it is happening(Peterson 2007). Your brain is controlling the ideas of what you are going to do next and right before you do it your brain sends electrcal impulses to the muscles that will be moving so fast that you dont even notice it(Peterson 2007). These impulses travel through what are called nerouns which are like little tiny passage ways until they reach the dendrites, and the dendrites connect to the muscle and then once it goes through the dendrite the muscle will act as is supposed to(Peterson 2007). Major league pitchers that have the title of higher velocity pitchers do not generate all there power from there arms most of the power is mainly acquired through the lower body of the pitcher(Baseball Performance Enhancer Top Velocity 2010). These pitchers ar normally titled starters the pitchers that start off the game on the mound and this is becuase they can throw more pitches(Baseball Performance Enhancer Top Velocity 2010). Like in all sports the lower body is a key part to it just like in baseball when you hit you want to use your hips and when you are pitching and you want to get speed you will use your hips and your legs(Baseball Performance Enhancer Top Velocity 2010). Then you have the other style of pitchers who do not throw as fast but they throw more off speed pitches these pitchers mainly generate the speed and action on the ball in the arm and shoulders(Baseball Performance Enhancer Top Velocity 2010). These pitchers are usaully called relievers in baseball the pitchers who come in after the starter comes out this is because they pitch with there arms and they can not throw as many pitches neccesarlly(Baseball Performance Enhancer Top Velocity 2010).
