Drones are becoming more popular everyday. They are being used as toys and industrial machines. As you read, you will learn the functions of the different parts of a drone, and the physics that make a drone fly. To start with, a drone needs a powerful, yet lightweight battery. Most drones, both industrial and toy, are powered off of Lithium-Polymer batteries or LiPos. Every piece of electronic equipment in the drone needs power from the battery. This is where the power distribution board comes in. The battery connects to the power distribution board, or PDB. The board then distributes power to all of the electronic components. Many PDBs include extra pieces of tech to improve a consumer’s experience with a drone. For instance, most modern boards have BECs. A BEC, or battery elimination circuit, regulates the voltage from the battery, stepping it down to something acceptable for fragile components. …show more content…
The ESCs control brushless motors, one of two kinds of motors used in drones. Brushless motors have two main parts, the rotor, and the stator. The rotor contains magnets and rotates (hence the name). The stator contains electromagnetic coils connected in pairs. There are 3 sections of coils in the motor, each connected to a wire. This is where the ESC comes in to play. It takes the voltage from the PDB, combined with a signal from the flight controller and turns different sections on and off to make the motor spin in different directions. The other kind of motor is a brushed DC motor, also known as a brush motor. It uses two solid brushes to spin the motor. The brushes are charged with electricity, causing plates in the motors called commutators to spin. A big difference between brushless and brushed motors in drones, is that with the brushless motors, the outside spins, while with brushed motors, the inside

The invention of the drone has prevented many deaths from occurring and lessened the risk of a pilot going out to war. Unfortunately, before such a great invention failure has to be achieved and that’s what “Rise of Drones” by Rudolph Herzog describes. The article describes the creators of some of the first drones and the failures that occurred while testing their drones. Rudolph also inserts a fear that arose when these inventions were first being…

Drones started about ten years ago in February of 2002. They were first used to track other people and also unknown places that might have missiles or other heavy equipment. The CIA were the first people to use the first drone. THat means the military didn’t make it. The CIA was the first people to work with the drones and make changes to them as years passed.…

Would the use of drones in the U.S. be a good thing? Drones offer a multitude of good uses for the people of America but there a few bad uses as well. A couple of the good uses for drones would be commercially by businesses or they could be used on the police force as well! Both of these examples would provide the greatest positive affect on America. Criminals and enemies of the U.S. could possibly use the drones against the U.S. COMMERCIAL USE OF DRONES FOR BUSINESSES…

Unmanned aerial vehicles, UAV, or drones as they are more commonly known, have become more popular means of eliminating targets as of late. Drones, basically robots, have completely changed modern war. These aircrafts can either be controlled remotely or can be programmed to fly automatically. Drones are more commonly used for military missions but have been dabbling in other areas such as search and rescue, weather monitoring, firefighting and even package delivery. Drones consist of four main parts; Ground Satellite, Air Satellite, Aircraft, and the Communications hub.…

The purpose of this letter is 1) to provide some background about drones and their applications in the medical field, 2) to indicate our deliverables for the medical drone design project and 3) to pose some specific questions to Massachusetts General Hospital about the project. Drones have been described as autonomous vehicles that can fly and navigate without the input from someone controlling it. Drones contain GPS chips inside to help the drone navigate and to help the pilot know where the drone is located at all times [1]. Researchers are currently developing drones that can respond to the environmental conditions that they are in [2]. Every drone also has a center of gravity that helps keep the plane from becoming imbalanced.…

Fundamentally, a drone is a flying robot. The aircraft can either be controlled by a remote or can fly freely through a software- controlled flight plan in their embedded systems that are working with sensors and GPS. Taken from internetofthingsagenda, the first drone ever created in history was called Queen Bee, a full-size retooling of the de Havilland DH82B biplane. Moreover, the military does not only operate on one type of drone. The military uses various types of drones.…

A drone is any unmanned aircraft that one can program or they can be autonomous. These robots often use GPS technology to be more accurate when preforming a task. Additionally, in most states an individual must receive a certificate of authorization from the FAA before using drones for any purpose other than recreational. The Federal Government uses drones to make citizens lives safer and easier by monitoring wild fires, supporting law enforcement, and training the military. However, the demand for consumer drones is increasing rapidly due to the FAA Modernization and Reform act, which is a four-year plan to introduce new aviation technology into our government, causes many people to question the drone’s nature within our country (FAA Modernization…

The coils are activated automatically one phase after the other by the drive electronics as organised by the hall effect sensors. This motor acts in a similar way to the three phase synchronous motors that utilise their own variable frequency drive. Contrast to this system, the Brushed DC motors use a rotating set of wire coils which is commonly referred to as the armature, and this acts as an electromagnet with two poles. A mechanical rotary switch known as the commutator, is used to switch the direction of the current to reverse, so that it flows through the armature and causes the poles of electromagnet to push and pull against the permanent magnets located on the outer edge of the motor. The commutator aids the process in which the polarity of the electromagnet poles of the armature is reversed as the electromagnet poles of the armature…
