Why would anyone want to live out the rest of their days in pain? My goal in this essay is to express my emotions on patients and their right to die via physician-assisted suicide. I support suicide via physician-assistance. There are many reasons on supporting this kind of suicide, but my main three arguments are the pain of the patient, the cost of hospital treatments to keep the patient comfortable, and lastly the emotional impact on the patient’s family. At the end of this essay I hope that my audience will stand with me in support of physician-assisted suicide. Before I get in too deep on my reasoning for backing physician-assisted suicide I would like to inform my audience on a few key terms that I will be using throughout this essay. Physician- assisted suicide is a suicide by a patient through a lethal dose of a prescription drug provided by a physician who is aware of the patient’s intent. Two other names for assisted suicide would be either mercy killing or euthanasia. Mercy killing could be construed into two different meanings depending on the situation. I will continue to back physician-assisted suicides not because it is a great outcome but it takes away the pain for the patients. In the end it is all about making sure that all of us are comfortable while we are on this side of Earth.
