Nowadays, Euthanasia is acknowledged by the pluralistic society, but whether or not physician assisted suicide is legal in Canada had been debated for a time, and it was not settled until Carter v Canada (AG) decision was made by the Supreme Court of Canada in February 2015. Although this decision will not take effect until 2016, it is a sign that a person who is in a irremediable medical conditions, but has strong will to terminate his/her life will have a right to die with dignity. The physician assisted suicide is truly a merciful way to die, because it not only relieves the burden of both patients and relatives but also provides people with a choice to die with dignity, while this decision may be still unacceptable for some ethicists who believe in Deontology and are proponents of natural death. …show more content…
There are hundred kinds of diseases in the world, which can not be cured by current human medical remedies, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), brain tumor, and some mental diseases, etc. For those people who get those diseases will not find an effective way to rescue. The only thing that a doctor can do is to use a palliative care to prolong patients’ time of survival. During the survival time, the situations of those patients who get incurable diseases will become worse and worse, and they have to suffer tremendous pain everyday. Their parents, lovers, children and friends can do nothing to help them relieve the suffering but to watch the patients become sick and to hear moans of patients. The people who really care about those patients are also suffering grievous mental excruciation at the same time. However, once the patients have
