His diagnosis was not good; and it had a major impact on our family. We all were led to believe that his mobility would be limited, that his wife (my grandmother) would need to care for him, and that he would have an overall decreased quality of life. Thanks entirely to physical therapy, and my grandfather’s tenacity, I have had the privilege of witnessing his transformation and watching him exceed the expectations of every physician. To this day, my grandfather continues his physical therapy and, because of it, he has regained much of his mobility and freedom. My time at Star Physical Therapy taught me a lot about the role of a Physical Therapist in a stand-alone clinic, which is ultimately the setting where I see myself professionally. My observation with Advance Therapy Solutions, which specializes in pediatric physical therapy, gave me an opportunity to observe physical therapy with children. Not only did it provide me with an understanding of the complexities of pediatric physical therapy, I found the experience working with the children and their parents to be incredibly rewarding.
