Some programs require a bachelor’s degree for admission along with specific educational prerequisites (such as classes in anatomy, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics). Some colleges accept college freshman into 6-7 year programs that allow them to receive both their bachelor’s degree and a DPT. PT programs include courses such as: biomechanics, anatomy, neuroscience, physiology, and pharmacology. PT students complete 30 weeks of clinical work to gain experience orthopedic care and acute care. After graduation, students may apply to residency programs. Residencies can last 9- 36 months. This program provides additional training and experience to any specific area of care. Since the DPT program is three years, nine semester program, school usually accept about 40 students per year (not everyone that applies, it accepted). The students take the same classes in the same order for the entire 3 years. Any physical therapist that has completed the residency program may choose to specialize further by completing a fellowship in any advanced clinical area .All states require PT’s to be licensed. .The requirements for licensing vary by state but all states include passing the National Physical Therapy Examination by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
