Physical Therapy Informative Speech

Raise your hand if you have ever played in a competitive sport. Keep your hand up if you ever sustained an injury in that sport and had to undergo rehabilitation due to that injury. According to Lisa Weisenberger the Director of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, “2 million athletes sustain injuries each year and of that 2 million ¼ of those injuries require serious medical attention.”(1) A physical therapist is an expert in the way a person’s body functions and is able to work with everyone from the early stage of infancy right onto the golden years of people’s lives to provide a highly professional and necessary service. I myself am only a few short years away from achieving a doctorate in physical therapy and am very excited to be joining such a highly regarded field. Throughout this speech I am going to inform you about the necessary schooling required to become a physical therapist along with some general information regarding the profession, and my own personal experiences with physical therapists. …show more content…
According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a 3-year specialized post-graduate program, a bachelors of science in biology, exercise physiology, or biomechanics, and 27 weeks of clinical experience are required to graduate with a doctorate in PT. (2) After all of that you have to get certified through (APTA) to become a practicing PT, and following your initial certification you have to get re-certified every 6-years.
