Physical therapy is a career that helps patients that have been injured in an accident or have birth defects. Physical therapy will always be needed around the world. Physical therapist examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. Physical therapists formed their first professional association in 1921. It was called the American Women's Physical Therapist Association. By the 1940s, the name was changed to the American Physical Therapist Association. Currently there is about 185,500 people listed as physical therapists. Physical therapists run test for their patients to determine where the injury is. They help them get back on their feet by performing stretches and exercises based on the patient's need. Most physical therapists work 8 hour days 5 days a week. …show more content…
At that point, you must take and pass a state exam. The majority of people in the physical therapist field are female but the male population is growing every year. You must be at least 25 years old to become a physical therapist. You must also be in good health, have a good personality, and have some experience in the field. To develop your own education plan you would want to consider taking an athletic training class at a college that offers it. Local firms where employment in the career field could be found is the Physical Therapist Center in Monroe N.C.
