“Did you try your absolute best? Then that is all that matters because that is all you or anyone else can ask of you.” During times of doubt my parents would constantly remind me of this. Throughout the past four years of my college career my father was my inspiration. Not only for his words of wisdom but because as I watched him battle and eventually lose his life to Lou Gehrig’s Disease, he somehow remained positive and continued to encourage me to try my best every day even though he was the one facing the terminal obstacle. It was a constant process inventing new ways for him to continue his activities of daily living to the best of his ability. With the help of many health care professionals we were able to keep him as comfortable and as mobile as possible during his battle. That is not the kind of health care professional I plan on becoming. I truly enjoy learning and as a physical therapist I plan to take continuing education courses and do research in order to constantly expand my practice. While working in my internship I was able to observe collaboration between the therapists daily which was very educating and enlightening for me. As a therapist I would love to constantly be able to share ideas and known information between my coworkers and myself. I love giving advice when I am able and I also enjoy receiving it. I believe that in a any inpatient or outpatient setting, especially pediatrics and nursing homes, a key trait in being an effective physical therapist is to be open minded and a team player.
