Physical Therapist Interview

Interviewing someone is something I am definitely going to need for my future career as a physical therapist. This class is going to get me where to the point where I need to be with interviewing a patient and being able to gain respect and trust with my patients. With the two interviews we have done in class, I can see where I have improved as an interviewer and where I need significant improvement on my interviewing skills. Opening the two interviews, I thought I did a much better job at opening the first interview. In that interview, I was able to ask very basic questions about Mikayla’s life. People say that you only get one chance to make a first impression, and this class is helping towards that part of the profession I need to become good at. Building rapport with my patients is probably the biggest aspect to that process so my patients can begin to feel comfortable with me as we begin their treatment process. When patients come in for their initial appointments, I have to interview them about how their injury occurred. The questions, for the most part, are already written out for physical therapists, so the attending behavior skills are extremely important. If I am looking uninterested when they are explaining their injury, they might not give me all the details, which could greatly affect their treatment plan. Seeming uninterested will also hurt the physical therapist’s relationship with the client. Looking for body language is also a very important aspect of being a physical therapist. If I am doing treatment on a patient, and I see that their face has a look of pain on it, which could be a sign to stop what I am doing and see if everything is all right. The interviewing skills taught in this class are one of the main aspects of being a good physical therapist. These skills are setting me up to be the best physical therapist I can
