Physical Science Paper

Improved Essays
Physical science is the sciences concerned with the study of inanimate natural objects, including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and related subjects. The topics that we covered in the 2015/2016 science year are: atoms and elements; chemical bonding and reactions; energy; electricity and magnetism; waves; and forces. My project is a toy made of conductive ink and wired lights in which the user places their finger onto the ink as a conductor. The part of the toy that comes into play with Chelchi and I is the premade templates used for customers to figure out the path and move onto the next template. The purpose of this wonderfully written paper is to explain in detail how my toy is super scientific and works with the topics we learned. …show more content…
Elements bond to fill their electron cloud by sharing or borrowing electrons. When elements bond, it creates a covalent or ionic bond. Chemical reactions are caused by a chemical change which could be as simple as converting H2O into CO2. My project, sadly, does not feature any chemical reactions that I know …show more content…
We make electricity using electric generators by using hydroelectric energy, wind energy, or nuclear energy. Electric motors work by passing alternating currents through opposing pairs of magnets to create a rotating magnetic field, which creates a magnetic field in the motor's rotor, causing it to spin around. My project relates to electricity by using conductive ink to complete a circuit featured in our kids toy.

Waves transfer energy. Sound is a wave because particles of the medium through which the sound is transported vibrate parallel to the direction that the sound wave moves. The 7 different types of electromagnetic waves are Gamma Ray, X-Ray, Ultraviolet, Visible, Infrared, Microwave, and Radio. My project does not really relate to waves but refers more to electricity. The EM waves that are incorporated however are Visible Rays. Update for whoever is reading this, it is currently 10:01 P.M. on Thursday and guess who procrastinated on finishing her amazing paper to go along with the equally amazing toy? This

An isotope is an atom containing different numbers of neutrons, differing in atomic mass. Basically an atom with a different atomic mass. What’s special about radioactive isotopes is that a radioactive isotope has a nucleus that decays spontaneously giving off particles and energy. 6. Radioactive tracers are used in science to label certain chemical substances, so metabolic processes can be followed and substances can be located in an organism.…

Hydroelectric energy is made from a turbine that turns falling water into mechanical energy; then that mechanical energy is turned into electric energy. This process helps produce electric energy from the kinetic energy of falling water. How does this process involve chemistry? It first begins with the mechanical energy of the water. Mechanical energy is all the energy that is put upon an object.…

Sound travels through matter, which is a solid, liquid or gas. Sound travels in longitudinal waves. There is also a vibration that starts on an object, and this causes a vibration on all the molecules. When these molecules vibrate, they cause all of the other surrounding molecules to vibrate. This vibration will spread from molecule to molecule causing sound to travel.…

Chemistry As Carl Sagan once said, “Chlorine is a deadly poison gas employed on European battlefields in World War I. Sodium is a corrosive metal which burns upon contact with water. Together, they make a placid and non-poisonous substance, table salt. Why each of these substances has the properties it does is a subject called chemistry.” Chemistry involves many things, from atoms to elements and their functions.…

Introduction In order to create a compound, there must be two or more atoms that bind together. These atoms may be made up of different elements, or some may be the same. There are two main ways that atoms bind together- covalently and ionically. In a covalent bond, two non-metals of similar electro negativities come together to share electrons with each other.…

A wave is a disturbance of energy. Sound and light are both disturbances in energy, and they both travel in the forms of waves. While sound travels in a longitudinal wave, light travels through a transverse wave. From a perspective of a human, sound and light on earth is very different compared to sound and light in space. These waves have differences in speed, form, shape, and other properties.…

Most people consider the distance between the Earth and its famous satellite to be fairly insignificant. How could such a nocturnal monument be so far away? However, one could position all of the planets in our solar system so that they fit within the limited space and still have thousands of kilometers to spare. This picture accurately conveys the scale of the universe, and ultimately alters our perspective entirely.…

Oxidation occurs when an element loses electrons and reduction occurs when an element gains electrons. Oxidation and Reduction are processes that always work together, hence the term oxidation-reduction reaction or redox reaction. Oxidation is also the gain of oxygen and loss of hydrogen while reduction is the loss of oxygen and gain of hydrogen. Redox reactions occur in everyday life, it is a highly significant form of chemical reaction. Examples of real life redox reactions include: combustion, metabolism of food, biological processes as well as the rusting of iron.…
