High school kids everywhere are running around the field based on how here their coach tells them to go. Thy go into uniform and hit the football field. Every kid on there knows it's hard work and most believe this is a sport. This is marching band. Webster's dictionary defines a sport as “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” Marching band follows each of these aspects of what is the official definition of a sport.
The first aspect is “an activity involving physical exertion…”. Physical exertion simply means to do physical activity such as running and lifting weights. Marchers across the globe run step by step on an exact tempo to get from point a to point b. In my experienced opinion, running at a set speed, and not whatever you can go right now, changing constantly, makes it more difficult because you can't slow down if you need too. These high school (and above) students are also carrying heavy objects such as a 5 pound rifle, if they are so lucky as to get a light one, a 6-12 pound trumpet, or even a 5-15 pound saxophone. They have to hold these up high while running all across the football field.
