My overall perception changed. I no longer saw Physical Education as a place where children release their energy, but as place where students infused other core curriculum, and learned the concept of what they were doing and why. For instance, they had to grip a ball with the understanding that they were developing their gross motor skills as well as having fun. Down stacking cups was intended for students to develop a brain based: left to right movement, cross midline of body, support hand and eye coordination and also to improve reading comprehension. More importantly, when I went out to the schools for observations and had an opportunity to see a Physical Education teacher integrate anatomy with Physical Education. The Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) believes that students should have a minimal of 60minutes of exercise each day; it shows that students who are physically active have a better learning readiness, attention, and lower behaviors issues, and better academic outcomes.
How has your thought about physical Education and health education changed? My thoughts about Physical Education/health have changed. In the since that, we are as one in the education field. As much as we portray ourselves to be slightly superior over one another we will lose our students’ confidence in the education they are receiving. The last I checked, we all are required to take the same academic course of study to receive our state certification.
In what ways will you incorporate health education and movement education within your general education curriculum? I will incorporate health/movement education into the general education curriculum by using the My Plate and brain boosters. As an illustration, I will have the students to create their own My Plate depending on the grade, and have the student’s differentiate from a healthy food choice and a not so healthy food choice. Moreover, I could have the students to participate in a brain booster once they enter the class to release that built up energy.
