Introduction
Early adolescence is a distinct period of human growth and development situated between childhood and adolescence, beginning with sexual maturation. This stage has only recently gained acceptance as a distinct developmental period. During this time, the developmental characteristics of young adolescents include physical, intellectual, psychological, moral, and social domains. These characteristics are interrelated and overlap. The movie “The Breakfast Club” vividly shows the five characteristics of development, while establishing the differences between each character, and how environment affects their personality.

Brian is a smaller, skinner, and more clumsy than Andrew. Nothing is actually physically wrong with him, he simply is built differently. Also, Brian was raised having the main priority to be doing well in school, while Andrew was raised with the priority on strength. The movie also shows the pressures adolescents undergo. In the scene when they were all badgering her about whether or not she was a virgin, she did not know what to say. She did not want to admit that she was a virgin, because being a virgin either makes a person a tease or a prude. Either way she would have been ridiculed. Brian felt compelled to originally lie and say he was not a virgin, because in the male culture being a virgin is uncool. They all succumbed to peer pressure to smoke marijuana, because none of them felt like they could really say no. Towards the end of the movie, when Brian told the gang that he considered them his friends and asked what would happen Monday, Claire clearly stated that they would not be friends on Monday. They were from different friend groups, and associating with people below their friend level would be frowned upon. This is the sad truth in life. She said that she would say hi to their face, but talk about them as soon as they walked away. However Brian goes against that. He says that is flat out wrong. Brian was most likely raised to always include everyone, and not discriminate against someone based on the company they keep. Brain had his own morals that he
