Notified Concerns:
The notified concerns relate to a seven-year-old boy with unexplained bruising around his back and arms. These marks where noticed by his teacher Ms. Austin during his English class at School’s Name on April 20, 2016. The child was placed in the care of his paternal grandmother by the Family Court three years ago. Recently, the child’s father moved in with the family after being drug free for a year and establishing fulltime employment. It was reported that the father has been hitting the children with the buckle of the belt which has left significant bruising.

• The father and grandmother have agreed to participate in the Family Intervention Service.
• The father attends substance abuse counselling and has agreed to continue to do so.

Risk Factors:
• The child displays difficult behaviors, poor social skills, and developmental delays.
• Grief experienced by the child over the death of his mother has not been addressed.
• There have been previous child protection notifications relating to the child.
• It is evident that the grandmother and father are struggling to manage the children’s behavior and have few ideas about how to do so without resorting to physical and demeaning punishments.
• The father’s record contains orders of domestic violence.
• The father’s past drug addiction and current alcohol use after a period of abstinence.
Conclusion:
