Introduction
Pregnancy and birth are two unique experiences for each woman. “Adolescent pregnancy with early prenatal supervision is considered less physically harmful to both mother and child” (Potter & Perry, 2014, p. 358). Although there may be physical and psychosocial changes during pregnancy such as breastfeeding. Unexpected pregnancy can be life changing to one 's life especially for young adults. Body image changes during pregnancy such as breast size increases, development of stretch marks and weight gain can be difficult for young adolescents who care a lot about their appearance. Aries is 17 years old she is single and aboriginal. She’s currently in grade 11 lives with her mother and with her older siblings. She is 12 weeks pregnant and is surprised that she is. “During pregnancy, a woman must eat adequately to not only support her own nutrition but also to supply enough nutrients so the fetus can grow” (Pillitteri, 2014, p. 304). It can be difficult for a 17 year old who plays volleyball and attends high school she may not be consuming enough calories. Usually skipping meals are common when you have a busy schedule we tend to eat ‘junk foods’ rather than healthy alternatives. Therefore teaching her about nutrition is really important for her and her baby 's wellbeing throughout the pregnancy.
On the other hand, Aries’s psychological priority health need is to learn breastfeeding and the benefits to breastfeeding the baby. “Breast milk is the preferred method of feeding for newborns because it provides numerous health benefits to both a mother and an infant” (Pillitteri, 2014, p. 492). Since Aries appeared ‘disgusted’ when talking about breastfeeding. It seems she may not be comfortable with breastfeeding her baby because of lack of knowledge.
