IRTC spoke with assigned CPS, Michelle Harris, who reported that the subject child was observed today with a bruise on his left arm which reportedly occurred when the alleged subject pinched him after the subject child pinched another kid. Brief Historical Perspective of Child Abuse Child abuse and neglect is a historical subject that goes back to the roots of human history. Mistreatment of children was common in the earlier centuries as corporal punishment was condoned and in some cases encouraged. Children were exposed to cruel treatment and were offered no protection from mistreatment; they were considered insignificant and had little or no rights. Historically, parents have used their children for profit.…
Physical child abuse is physical injury inflicted upon the child with cruel and/or malicious intent. Physical abuse can be the result of punching, beating, kicking, biting, burning, shaking, or otherwise harming a child physically. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the role of imaging in child abuse is to “identify the extent of physical injury when abuse is present and to elucidate all imaging findings that point to alternative diagnoses” (Kaplan, 2016). Battered child syndrome, shaken infant syndrome, stress-related infant abuse, and non-accidental trauma are all terms used to describe non-accidental injuries in infants and young children as a result of abuse (Robben,…

Many children are being neglected and abused by irresponsible adults. “Hundreds of thousands of children in the United States are estimated to be victims of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse”(Gale). In each family children are raised differently, however, most of the time people raise their children based on the way they were raised. Moreover, many children were raised to fear their parents because their punishment is to be abused in some way. The problem with defending spanking is that many fail to define it and/or defending it.…
Introduction: I am writing my Decision-Making Report over the need of the importance in learning to be able see the early signs of neglected or abused and what do at a child care facility or in a school. My main audience is the State of Texas Education. While convincing the State of Texas Education about the problem with neglect and abuse, I will also talk about 3 possibilities there are for addressing/solving this problem. Audience questions: Neglect and abuse is something that increases every day in life.…

Current conceptions of child abuse and neglect in Western society are strongly correlated with the historical and ongoing social construction of childhood. Childhood is not something that is natural or a biological stage of life. During the course of this essay, it will be argued that in Western society families and childhood are socially constructed and definitions of childhood change with definitions of child abuse and neglect through space and time. Families are socially constructed because they are seen as this safe, stable, loving, heterosexual, patriarchal and nuclear family (Mandell & Duffy, 2011, p.278). There is also this belief that families are a safe haven and a place of security (McCauley, 2015).…
