It is fact that the film Hero was a box office smash, and won several different types of awards around the world. The director , and producer was Zhang Yimou, and the cinematographer Christopher Doyle which worked together for the first time on Hero and resulted in the film's unique style of layout and design concerning the use of color and photography. The use of colors used throughout the film are intertwined with the story. The film begins in a black, and shortly after shows the King’s soldiers are all in black armor producing the feelings of the situation being death are despair. There are four colors represented in the films storyline, which are Red, Blue, Green, and White. Each color represents a different period, and a unique way of presenting the story. In most of the fight scenes the camera is what is referred to as stationary for the most part, but other types of shots were used such as pan- shots is by moving the camera lens to one side or another, tracking shot is a shot made by a camera moving along tracks, zoom shot is when the camera is stationary, but the lens moves which makes the objects appear to grow larger or smaller, and a high angle shot is simply getting a birds-eye-view, and a low angle shot is done by placing the camera anywhere below the eye level and pointing it upward, and can also make objects appear larger.
