Week In Photos

Sometimes you need a push to get started. In this case, the man does not need the pushing, but his tricycle needs a push to get to his destination. This photo has no title but Narinder Nanu/ Agence France-Press/ Getty Images photographed it. It was taken in Amritsar, India and I found this photo when I was looking on “The Week in Photos” from Wall Street Journal and it was published onto this webpage on May 29, 2015. The Indian man is pushing his tricycle full of ice to his destination. The photo contains an Indian man around five foot eight hauling around four large blocks of solid ice. All of the melting blocks are arranged to fit onto his tricycle where most people would use the tricycle to taxi people around. It is blistering hot and he is strictly dressed in his long sleeve cotton shirt and blue turban. Also wearing his long gray beard so that you can only see his tan eyes and nose. Rather than riding the tricycle, he is along the side of it pushing it in his worn …show more content…
The photo does a good job of focusing on the main points in the image. I think that the photographer emphasized on the ice because it was the main aspect in the picture. He focused on the ice so when you look at the photo, your first glance goes straight to the bright white ice. Then you look to the man. The man and the ice are the main attractions. Everything else has a dark tint so I think that the photographer has intentions of having his main focal point towards the ice. The photographer also blurred out the back to again, draw the attention to what was needed to been seen. The man in the photo is in an urban area but the photo is cropped so you can only use your imagination to determine if the area is crowded or if he is the only one out. He does not notice that the photo is being taken. This is something he does every day to make a living for himself and his

Walker Evans I was assigned to write about Walker Evans, born in the USA (1903-1975) who is considered a noticeable American photographer during his time, his art is considered influential during the twentieth century because he is considered a creator in the documentary style in the American photography. His photographs documented American life and culture during 30’s/70’s. I believe his journey through photography is a journey through concept, belief, and art history. At the beginning of his practice Evans admired and reflected the American history as his work documents the actual lifestyle of poor common people, it also described some of their agony and misery, this is why his art became a record that describes the important lifestyle during that time. This was all during the black and white photography technique at his early starts.…

The passage paints a picture of a dark sky, lit only by the light of the full moon, reflecting off of the snow. In describing the setting as “at night under the full moon,” with the additional detail of “the black-striped snow” Munro sets a scene that would seemingly be represented in black and white alone, whether by choice of the filmmakers, or the lack of viable palette variety. This passage could hardly be any more contrasted with…

The quote is clearly important, as the subject is pointing at it, and it takes up most of the frame. In the tenth photograph, the girl in the back of the photograph draws focus because she is doing the action. She is clearly engaged in what she is talking about, made evident by her hand gestures. Alex’s blue hair is also culturally significant. In the eleventh photograph, Dakota once again draws focus because of his bright colors against more neutral colors, and his entire person is facing the camera more than anyone else.…

This photography is an innovative video work of Daniel crooks, which it used multiple slices of moving an image to create a movement of people cross paths and overlap the road. I can clearly see that this video has been taken in somewhere in China, as the Chinese labels are very obvious. It is noticeable that there were a number of people walking across the road path. In addition, it seems very crowded in this picture, which it provides me with an understanding of Chinese’s cultural and their daily lives. In this photo, Crooks stretches the real time of the video to draw an attention of the viewer into a digital collage.…

A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie is an oil on canvas painting currently located at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City as part of the museum’s collection of American paintings. Albert Bierstadt created this panoramic painting in New York in 1866. The piece’s accession number at the museum is 76.79. Just as the title indicates, the painting’s subject is a storm in the Rocky Mountains, specifically at the lake valley of Mt. Rosalie and with Native Americans riding horses along the river bank. Through the superb use of formal elements, Bierstadt reflects both the excitement and concerns with Westward Expansion and settlement at the time, urging caution in the U.S.’s interactions with Native Americans and nature.…

In my opinion he is meaning that even though he has bad times on and near the rink, it still carries memorable moments. Hockey gives Saul a sense of identity and that is lost if he does not hold it with him. Saul uses his sport as affection to gain acceptance to himself and the full community.…

First Snow by Leonid Afremov begins with a road lined with street lights on both sides. The road is very shiny looking as if it is iced over with the street lights reflecting back up into the night sky off of the road. On each side of the road there are vibrant colored trees with a layer of white covering the ground as if it was snowing. The leaves on the trees seem to meet in the middle of the road overtop of the street lights. Deeper into the painting, there are two people walking down the road with their backs turned to the viewer.…
