I really enjoyed drawing and through this activity drawing became one of my favorite things to do on my free time. At the start drawing was challenging, because the last time that I had drawn something was many years ago and starting to draw after so long time of not drawing made it challenging. I like new challenges and took this as a possibility to develop my drawing skills and started by simple drawings and then continued to draw more challenging things e.g. cars, logos, skylines etc. It was nice to see how my skills had developed during this activity and looking back at the start made me realize how much I had learned from this activity. Especially now, in a time that the world needs righteous deeds to balance the craziness that keeps escalating a bit everywhere, it’s comforting to focus our attention in virtuous projects done by benevolent people who dedicate their lives to help others in need. This idea gains further emphasis when the people who are benefitting from these efforts are children. Documentarian Marvin Blunte captures with a self-assertive sense of appreciation, the wonderful assistance and guidance given to the poor and abandoned children who reside at Children’s Village School, a 35-year institution located in a remote jungle of the Kanchanaburi province, Thailand. As an alternative to the public school system and the first democratic school in the country, it gives the opportunity to 150 underprivileged children to experience several tasks, from cooking to art making to cleaning, while learning the…

Since a very young age, art has always been one of my major interests. I found joy in getting my hands messy with the paint and then transforming a white piece of paper into a something more than that with a rainbow of colors. In school, I always made sure to take all the possible art classes that were available and would fit my schedule. I also began to get more in involved in after school clubs such as the National Art Honor Society and the SmART Club where we did several art projects every week. On my last year of high school I decided to challenge myself and I took AP Studio Art: Drawing Portfolio.…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

The aftermath of hurricane Sandy was horrific, however it was also followed by a huge amount of social responsible acts that influenced my life indefinitely. In October of 2012 my community was directly hit by hurricane Sandy which resulted in extreme flooding, fires and wind damage that left a tremendous amount of damage, including concrete sidewalks and streets in rubble; there were holes with half or entire truck’s or car’s buried inside of them. The flood was so bad that we were trapped inside until the water eventually drained into the sewer systems. When the storm and the water surpassed, people panicked; with no phone services, television or radio no one knew how long we would be without resources. Many people broke into flooded stores to get water, canned foods and any undamaged supplies…

Area of strength An area of strength for my teaching practice would be the different teaching methods and multiple forms of literacy that I’ve included in the lessons, as I have been trying to do a different activity for each lessons, or includes visual, music, and videos in the lessons to give students different approaches to the contents. My mentor teacher commented the different tasks as “interesting and useful” for the students. The students…
