The Outsiders Character Analysis

I am writing my character analysis about Ponyboy. I will be telling about how Ponyboy acted throughout the story, how he reacted to things, and a summary of his over all personal appearance.
Ponyboy is the youngest person in the group of greasers coming in at age fourteen. He lives with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop because his parents died a few years ago in a car crash. He has long brown hair that is always greased and in his face. He is a good kid for the most part in the story. He goes to school and gets good grades unlike the other greasers. His older brother Darry went to school and so did Sodapop, but he dropped out because most things were too hard for

Hinton pg. 50). Ponyboy asked Johnny if he wanted to run away with him and Johnny said yes. While they were running they decided to go to the fountain. Ponyboy wanted to stay there for a little bit to cool down, so then maybe he could go home. When Pony and Johnny were at fountain the socs showed up and started to circle the park. Ponyboy wanted to handle the situation by running for it like he usually tries to do. When they started walking towards them he got scared, but he just wished for a broken bottle and backed into the fountain. The socs started to get closer and say mean things to Pony and Johnny. Pony reacted to it by trying to handle it by saying mean things back, but it didn’t help. The socs grabbed Pony and put his head in the fountain and he acted back by trying to fight back but he couldn’t do anything. Johnny killed the soc that was drowning Pony. Pony reacted this by getting sick and then freaking out about what they were going to do next. For the rest of the middle half of the story Pony always reacted to everything very cautiously and would freak out at small …show more content…
He was constantly getting mad and argueing with Darry, he didn’t try in school anymore, and didn’t like to listen to people when they knew what was best. His teachers were concerned because he used to be at the top of his classes before and now he wasn’t. Ponyboy didn’t really care that he wasn’t doing well anymore in his classes. One night when Darry and Pony got into a fight Sodapop spoke up and said some things to them that changed Pony. After Pony knew how Soda felt about all of this he stopped fighting with Darry and started trying in his classes(“I picked up the phone book and called my English teacher.” S.E. Hinton pg. 179).He was reacting to situations better again instead of wanting to fight.
Ponyboy was a very good kid in the story and did a very great thing for people at one point. At the beginning of the story he got scared of things because of socs jumping him. In the middle of the story he was scared of things and freak out at small things because of Johnny killing the soc. At the end of the story Pony acted completely different than the rest of the story by being rude, not listening, and not caring but at the very end he fixed himself and became a good kid
