For the purposes of this paper, I will refer to the man that I interviewed as Pat. Pat grew up in a big family; three brothers and two sisters. Pat identified that the only concern from his family history is that his dad had coronary artery disease. His mom would make “heart healthy” meals each night, and they would rarely eat out. All his siblings, including him, were involved in sports.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

There are instances in life where people are forced to take action in order to facilitate a long-term behavioral change. In my earlier years, somebody once told me it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. For some unusual reason, those words have always been wedged in my memory bank; however, an immense number of individuals struggle to eclipse that milestone. Through my personal experiences I was able to personally motivate individuals and use my personal ability lead an individual to live a healthier life. I am a firm believe in the saying “progress not perfection.”…
