While at the NBC TV group my job was to 'figure out the internet' (as my boss put it). It needed to be more than just banner ads, so I built a talented team of marketers, content producers, etc that was spun off into a digital startup. Every aspect of the film is imbued, created and viewed through the lens of the black female spectator as filmmaker. Nana is arguably the center of the film – she’s an old wise woman and the leader of the Peazant family. She is regarded as the seat of knowledge in the family – which is already a subversion of mainstream cinema that usually gives that type of knowledge to old white men. Nana Peazant’s knowledge is ancestral and cultural, yet gives her the wisdom of any great scholar - the African intelligence is put toe to toe with the Greco-Roman mythologies in a manner similar to the asserting of the African Griot style as valid in comparison to the linear narrative. The respect of African knowledge is also evident in the peaceful co-existence…

In the d-block production, ‘Inherit the Wind’ I served the role of publicist, along with this role I had the job of preparing flyers, making signs, and creating a playbill. I selected this role because I am very familiar with the use of all of the google apps and I thought it would be an exciting and challenging role. I envisioned the role to be lots of computer work, which it was and I also thought it would have to require lots of detail and attention to make sure I got everything right, as it was. I thought our blocks production was well performed as well as organised and put together.…

Film Review: The Poniente What does it take to grow a tomato plant? For most people, perhaps a handful of seeds, a bag of fertilizer, and the occasionally trimming and watering would be sufficient enough to harvest the fruits in a few months’ time. Yet, as the film The Poniente has showed, the real cost behind these seemly average household items, are often beyond our imaginations. The Poniente tells the story of a single mother, Lucia, who tried to lead the family business in a rural costal town.…

The movie “Arranged” is a drama-induced film with a powerful message of integrity that religious women uphold. Arranged is a film that displays traditions that are very important in a religious household, such as marriage. Coming from two completely different traditions, Rochel, an orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a dominant Muslim, come to realize that their process for marriage is very similar. I chose to do this assignment rather than the bus ride because once I read what the movie was about, I began to be very interested in learning how the process of marriage works in other religions besides my own. I recently got engaged so I was looking forward to comparing the processes from the two women in the story with my own experiences since I am looking…

I feel as if I am always keeping up with current events so I know what is ongoing throughout education in America. There is so much that is happening behind closed doors that the public has no clue about until it is presented in a documentary or by a “conspiracy theorist". The movie and audio play “Sorry Wrong Number” both have very special attributes that added to the overall meaning and plot of the piece. To make their individual genre a successful medium for the piece, both demonstrated different individual qualities. The audio play, who relied solely on sound to communicate the piece, uses tone, sound effects, and mental imagery to deliver the piece. On the other hand is the movie who uses action and flashbacks, to build character and plot. Though both have vastly different genre, they use their own special aspects to perfectly deliver the piece “Sorry Wrong Number”.…

In the film industry, the production of the last Harry Potter film is an illustrative example of how vertical integration works in practice in the film industry. The Deathly Hallows Part Two was created by Warner Bros. pictures in association with Heyday Films; Warner Bros. used their International Cinema Chain to distribute and easily showcase the movie worldwide. The marketing of the movie was done by Time Warner’s companies, which is again owned by Warner Bros (CITE). Vertical integration is well used by the bigger multi-national Film Companies (such as the Warner Bros.). As a result of the vertical integration, independent Picture would likely not have the equal advertising space on certain channels such as Warner Bros. have.…
