SWEATSHOP LABOR COMPANIES Sweat shop labor for businesses are around the world. Companies such as Nike, Adidas and Walmart are some of the companies that are going to be written about for this paper. Is it unethical to hire low paid workers in different countries to hire as sweatshop labor? Meaning that they have bad working conditions and can be paid lower wages. Here are three companies and how they use sweat shop labor. Nike Inc.-Nike has factories in different countries that help make their shoes. The ethical decision is if the Indonesia workers are paid less than average and the answer is yes. The Indonesian workers are paid less than a dollar by Adidas. The company is making a lot of money so they can hire indonsia workers and abuse and make them work overtime and strenuous hours. Some of the workers are also underage. The consumers want Adidas shoes and apparel. Adidas the company takes the work over to Indosensia so they can pay workers cheap labor. If people didn’t buy these products then there would not be sweatshop labor in Indonesia. Adidas denies that they have this but also are looking into the matter. I think Adidas is unethical because they are paying Indonesia low wages and are also making them manufacture their apparel. The children have to endure long shifts and have to work in unsanitary condition. The children get paid six and half cents for these long hours. Some of the children are abused and forced to sleep for a couple of hours on the Walmart floors and then wake up and start there day all over again. The consumer demands for Walmart is great. Walmart is a big company and could pay workers more money and also use adults that need jobs in their countries. They could also help the children with school and then the older children in the afternoon after school could work for Walmart. Walmart is unethical because it uses children for sweatshops and child labor. I think Walmart should manufacture their good in the United States helping workers over here to get jobs. I think they could also sponsor an older teenager and have a work study program to help them learn Walmart’s trade and skills. The workers are just trying to make money for their
