Philosophy Of Technology In Education

Teacher’s philosophy of technology use in education depends on many factors. It is influenced by educator’s age; by positive and negative experiences in prior technology use; by fear of unknown information; or it could be even dictated by the school. It differentiates from one generation of teachers to the next. At age of 36 I have managed to develop fear of failing to keep up with the speed of the technology progress, but in the same time I try to remain open to the idea of being educated in technology field and of using this knowledge in the classroom. The demand to supplement traditional teaching style with technology can be explained by shift to student centered education (G.B.Brooks and M.B.Brooks, 1999). Research, training, storing information and networking will be main purposes for my own work and professional development.
• To what extent do you think technology will or has changed education?
Technology made education accessible from any place in the world and allowed students to stand out and learn at their own pace. It made education visually more entertaining and captivating, which stimulates learning process and delivers better results.
To summarize all the above statements, philosophy of technology in education reflects dynamic learning process, which allows education to be student centered. That is achieved via different technology strategies, which purposely target certain educational goals. Technology helps to reach these goals through visual, auditory and hands on technology tools, making it accessible to all the students in the classroom no matter of their knowledge and expertise level, providing students with individual rate and speed of the progress. Technology also supplements this process with safe and time sufficient ways of communication between teachers, students, parents and administration, making this to be the smoothest process
