Philosophy Of Special Education

I have always aspired to be a special education teacher. Being able to help students with exceptionalities follow their life-long dream is what I want to do. With being a special education teacher, there are a lot of requirements and responsibilities that we have to follow so that our students are receiving the best education. There are a lot of standards and principles that special educators are committed to and I have picked three that are important to me and that I want to follow. First is the principle of maintaining challenging expectations for individuals with exceptionalities to develop the highest possible learning outcome and quality of life. All students have dreams and should follow their dreams. For some student’s it is harder to follow those dreams so I want to step in and make sure that their education is leading them towards them. What I have noticed so far in schools is that students with exceptionalities are not as challenged as they should be. I think that all students should be involved in the classroom and outside of the classroom. Best buddies is a great organization that students to come together and socialize with another. I think this is a great program for students with exceptionalities because they feel part of the school and club. Students are building their social skills and creating relationships with one another. This can boost a student’s self-esteem and get them more involved in the classroom because they are able to engage in conversation and express what they are feeling.
