Philosophy Of Physical Education

As a physical education teacher I have the responsibility to meet the needs of a student with a disability just like a general education teacher. Appropriate education is important to follow when working with kids with a disability. These children have the right to participate in physical education class with their individual needs put into consideration. As a physical educator it is crucial to come up with programs and plans that the student can use during class to help them participate like every other student. The programs that are created should help the student be challenged, but also successful during class. Physical education class is their time to learn how to be physically active and learn the fundamentals of movement. The second term that is important for a physical educator to be involved in is an IEP. An IEP is written for students with disabilities to make sure the educational goals align with the students learning needs and that they …show more content…
The first term is regular classroom with consultation. If I had a student with a disability in my class that didn’t need a special educator with them, I would talk to a special education teacher to get advice. They may be able to give me some tips for behavioral issues or for adapting the class. The second type of LRE I may see while I’m a physical education teacher is a classroom with supplementary instruction and services. The student will have a special educator with them during the physical education class. The educator is there to help the student with activities during class. In many cases this may be an adaptive physical education teacher that comes to class to help the student with the disability. The federal legislation that defines all the information above is called The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
