The Five Basic Concepts Of The Leadership Challenge

The foundation of my leadership philosophy is that a great leader knows his or her subordinates and is able to adapt to the subordinates. Leadership is a fundamentally human endeavor; the subordinates accomplish goals and the role of a leader is to motivate subordinates to achieve goals. According to the “Path-goal theory,” leaders should adapt their leadership styles to their subordinates and help them to choose the best path for achieving their goals (Wikipedia, 2016). From the interview experience with a retail store manager, I also learned that a great leader should be flexible in leadership styles depend on different situations and people.
None of leaders is born to be great; leadership also needs practice. There are five core practices to be an effective leader. Five common concepts of “The Leadership Challenge” are: challenge the process, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, model the way, and encourage the heart (Wikipedia, 2016).

Leadership is a team effort; leaders cannot get to the destination without followers. Collaboration is an important skill to make the work done more effectively, and leaders know that trust is the fundamental element of collaboration. Group works are inevitable whenever at school or at workplace. I notice that a good collaboration creates a great achievement because collaboration makes people capable of joint performance and makes weaknesses irrelevant. For example, I had a group project to make a video, and the leader of my team played significant role in success. We all had a common goal which is to get an “A,” and the leader wanted every member to be participative and collected everyone’s opinion to make the video look better.
