Philip Neri
St. Philip Neri was born in Florence on July 21st 1515. He was a Christian Missionary and founder of the congregation of the oratory. At 18 years old Philip went to live with a wealthy family member in San germano Italy to assist in business, but soon after he experienced a mystical Vision considered his Christian conversion. He lost interest in business and felt a call from the holy spirit so he set out for Rome. During his first two years in Rome he lived a solitary life and dedicated much of his time to prayer. In 1535 Philip begin studying and at Saint Augustine's monastery, and he had a passion for starting up conversations and leading his listeners to the Christian way of life. So after three years of study he set out to help the poor and re-evangelize the city. Philip’s appealing nature when his friends at all societal levels including that of Ignatius of Loyola and Charles Borromeo. In 1548 with the help of his Confessor, Philip founded the confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity for poor laymen to meet for Spiritual exercises and services of the poor. First of all, Philip Neri was a true man for others, he always put others before himself.
He was also very teachable, meaning that he listened and payed attention to the small details. Philip Neri changed the lives of many children of all ages. Philip was a great role model for other people and never ceased his help until all that he could have done had been done. Furthermore, Philip loved life, he loved to laugh and loved to play, he is nicknamed for this characteristic as the “cheerful saint”.
