Philip Lynch Theatre Concert Report

I was not looking forward to seeing URINETOWN THE MUSICAL because I was tired from working all day and I really thought it was going to be a boring musical to watch. I expected that the musical would be set in the past around 1950s and it would be confusing for the audience to relate to. When I walked into the Philip Lynch Theatre I was surprised that the theatre was a thrust stage with two floors of seating. The main floor seats were all filled but the balcony seating was empty. The first thing that you noticed when you walked into the lobby was a wall that had a quote that covered the entire wall. As you passed that wall you immediately noticed the pictures on the wall of the past and prior actors and staff members that had performed in the …show more content…
I attended URINETOWN THE MUSICAL on Saturday April 23, at the 8:00 o’clock showing. My seat was located in the last row in the rear-center of the first floor. I had a great view of the stage because all the rows in the theater were elevated which allowed everyone in the audience to have a clear view of the stage. The couples sitting next to me were all elderly and they did not affect my perception of the production. Although, I felt the musical was more for the younger generation than the older generations because during some of the witty humor skits the younger generation was laughing but the older people just sat their with no emotion or expressions on their faces. Even though, I laughed a lot during the performance the older adults did not affect my perception of the …show more content…
The main theme of the script was about corruption in authority, such as the poor people having to pay to pee but the rich are using the money to make themselves better. For example, the townsfolk thought Lockstock and Barrel were protecting the water in the ground, but instead they were the tyrants and puppets of Cladwells. The central message of the script was that people should stand up to powerful people and fight for what they believe in. In the musical Bobby Strong is a hero who decides he had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom. The musical was funny, innovated, and entertaining to watch. The plot was bizarre because people actually had to pay to pee and if they could not pay they could not pee. The entire musical was about the townsfolk fighting to pee for free. Even though this was a bizarre plot it was filled with songs and dance numbers throughout the entire performance. The title URINETOWN THE MUSICAL was an interesting title, it went along with the musical and it grabbed people’s attention. When the musical started I thought it was predictable that the hero would defeat Gladwell and get the girl in the end. I was completely wrong, the musical had a surprising end to the performance. The musical was surprising because it did not have a happy ending, the hero, Bobby Strong was killed early in the second act and Hope lead the townsfolk in honor of Bobby and in turn the townsfolk killed her in the end of the performance. So the main

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

On the surface, one might not think that the great Italian opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the acclaimed indie group Dinosaur Jr. have much in common. One concert, for instance, took place in an intimate performing arts center to an attentive and quietly reverent audience while the other in a loud, rough-and-tumble rock venue to a lively and informal audience. Indeed, there may appear to be no similarities between the effortlessly skilled classical stylings of the UNT College of Music and the deliberately ramshackle indie sound of Dinosaur Jr. However, with these two concerts, we see Christopher Small’s concept of “musicking” in full effect and, critically, two different forms of the same musical elitism.…

I’m sitting alone in the front pew of the University of Virginia Chapel on a cold December night. In front of me there is a tall metal stand with a set of bongos perched precariously atop. Behind me sits the entire crowd of the sold out Virginia Women’s Chorus Candlelight Concert. When I arrived in Charlottesville months earlier, I could have never expected to be here. I have just finished performing a piece with the chorus minutes earlier, when a member of the chorus steps forward and addresses the audience to explain and introduce the next piece.…

It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

The live concert I chose to examine was Wicked. My family and I went and saw it on October 15th at Century II at the 2:00 p.m. showing. Inside the venue, there’s around over 30 rows of red seats on the main floor, along with a balcony with perhaps a handful of rows (I didn’t get a chance to see how many). The walls are a beige color and narrow from the back to the front in a “V” formation to draw focus onto the stage. The stage had an industrial look on each side with a large map of the land of Oz.…
